Why don't we just agree to disagree? This thread is getting boring, quite frankly. Not to me it isn't. If it is boring to you I recommend that you not read or participate in it, just like I or anyone else would do with a subject that was of no interest to us.

Kyledenny, you and Jerry can continue if you both want.
BUT ...
In reply #24, you said,
That got my red flag up, because I'm concerned about this degenerating into a flame war. If you and Jerry are happy with each other, you can continue to play with each other - I'll leave it to his ... discretions. ;D

If you and Jerry are happy with each other, you can continue to play with each other - I'll leave it to his ... discretions. ;D Wait a sec, you can't have it both ways. In another post you emphatically stated that you weren't the boss and we should police ourselves. My "you don't give up statement" was because I had failed to convince Jerry of my side of the topic, nothing more, nothing less. In all the time I've been on the forum, I've never had a flame out with Jerry nor do I expect to. There was only one person on the old forum (in the two years I was there) that seemed to have problems with anyone and he isn't here - yet. So what is it? Are you in charge or not? If so, it would be nice if your rules (or someone's rules) were written out so all could see. I don't mean the common sense rules, just your interpretation of what you think they should be. A reasonable argument or even some mild harrassment and insults such as we used to have are simply facets of the military life that those of us who have served are used to. As you very well know, the difference between those of us who served and those who didn't is very different in our attitude and how we interact with each other. Another way of putting it is that we have thicker skin than our civilian counterparts.

I'm in charge to the extent of preventing a flame war and inflammatory remarks - common sense (whatever that's supposed to mean) rules. There are, effectively, no other rules.
Jerry is also in charge and has advised me you two are not going to take out your knives, so go ahead.

Denny has asked for published rules and he may be correct in wanting to know what the limits are going to be here. Stanley has laid out his concept of how the forum should run and now I will let you all know how I intend to look at things: 1) I ask that you keep the well known four letter words to a minimum, employing them only when ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to make your point. 2) I would expect we will all treat each other with respect. Disagreements are OK and expected - if we all agreed, there would be no reason to discuss anything. But, we can disagree without name calling (which seems to be the major reasons for the start of flame wars) 3) A corollary to (2) above is that a certain amount of "inter-service rivalry" is to be expected (even within the same service IE Infantry grunts vs Sig C pukes). This is similar to sibling rivalry - I can pick on my brother all day long but if someone else begins to pick on him - they got the both of us to reckon with. In other words - I love you but I still like pulling your chain occasionally 4) I don't expect we will be bothered by it too much but we do need to respect copyright laws. It is tempting to copy long posts from other sources, but a short quote, with a link, will keep us on safe ground. And there should be a reason for a cut and paste posting IE YOU need to make a point or say something other than just putting up someone else's words 'cause you think they are neat. 5) The PRIME DIRECTIVE -- enjoy the interaction and HAVE FUN

Fine by me, especially about No. 5. Shall we post this in a sticky in the general or welcome section?
