Sorry for the late report but.......(A quick report was posted in the News thingie on the home page)
It went like a well planned flight - no drama - no "wow that was close" - no "What was that !?" just boring and as planned. Arrived Chambersburg Hospital at 0630, and Gary Keller was there to lend assistance and moral support (Thanks, Gary). Nurse called my name about 0645 and Judy and I went into Pre op. Got stuck with a half a dozen needles, answered 5400 questions and signed a half a million lawyer type papers and off to the OR. Once there I was asked my name and birth date for the 153rd time and the next thing I knew was some stranger looking me right in the eye and saying "The procedure went well - you are now bladderless". After I was a bit more cognizant of my surroundings, the doctor came in and said everything went very well (a planned four hour operation was completed in three and a half) He got all of the bladder and about 3/4 of the prostate. He did not open the bladder, but could see from the outside that, apparently, the cancer had not penetrated to bladder wall, so it looks like I have beaten the monster once again.
That afternoon and part of the next day was quite painful and Judy ate the three meals that I was offered. A couple of shots of "Happy Juice", and I was able to get up and sit on the side of the bed.
Wednesday saw me pretty much pain free except when I coughed. Wednesday afternoon the cough stopped and I was ready to go home. Thursday the doc agreed with me and I was discharged around noon on Thursday and am now at home in front of my very own computer.
There is still a bit of pain when I stand up, but it is tolerable if I do so slowly. I expect I'll be able to stand upright in a couple of days and back to normal by the end of next week. The Doctor was exceptional and the entire hospital staff left nothing to be desired.- friendly, knowledgeable, professional and wanting to please - couldn't ask for more. (Did have one complaint but I'll share that with the hospital administration)
Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. I'm looking forward to returning to the "land of the living" in a couple of weeks. Thanks again,
