The only Vietnamese I had any respect for were the N.Vietnamese and I didn't like them , the American Soldier was too good to waste in that place , we had some pretty good officers there though I never met one , the Country had a particular odor like something dead was there . the 'Ho houses were full of 'Ho's .

Ho houses would be full of Ho's - but what's wrong with free markets? And, if South Vietnam had survived, it would have become a thriving democracy like South Korea, unlike the garbage dump it (and the north) is now.

S.Vietnam would have never survived the S.Vietnamese didn't have the will or determination too survive , when the U.S. pulled out we left them with a modern Air Force , a Navy and a Army .

Afghanistan holds $Trillions of natural resources that have been identified by prospectors, if stability can be achieved and the Taliban influence eliminated or at least greatly reduced and the economy is kick started by mining then there would be the opportunity to create jobs other than Opium trade.
I have worked with a number of Vietnamese and Laotian migrants who were hard working manufacturing factory employees and generally these people are contributing to Australia.

The Empire knew that Afghans most important resources was poppies , poppies could be made into opium which could be dumped on the Chinese like it or not , I forgot what the Empire received in return . The only way you can cut into the resources in Afghan is remove the Afghans .

If you've ever been to S.Korea then you will know why there is a S.Korea and why there is no S.Vietnam .

South Vietnam was growing before Saigon fell, because the Vietnamese are a hard-working people.

The Vietnamese have a very different mindset than the Koreans most Vietnamese were used to working in the paddies and really didn't care what went on outside their village , the Koreans had the same sort of back ground but got over it , the ROK Army is tough and they got that way because the Americans showed them that if they wanted a better life they would have to fight for it .

Vietnamese children have become high achievers here in Oz, as have all Asian background people here generally. Australia has a problem in my view being an excellent climate, lots of beaches, affluent society since WW2 and too many of our Anglo Saxon descendants very lazy and wanting only the good life. Middle Eastern worse at accessing welfare and having no visible wealth creation activities.

Asains find life is good outside of Asia they don't have to work near as hard to share in the plenty , and the young ones know knowledge is success , guess who the hell's paying for all this.

Well taxpayers pay and here they are Asians as well as other ethnics but in my opinion we need educated young people to continue nation building and increasing prosperity, and supporting an ageing population that contributed to the land the immigrants enjoy now.
There is an interesting political development here, at first the refugees and other immigrants tended to vote for the left of politics but as they become middle class and business owners the trend is to the right side now.
Australians on average are centre of the political road or slightly left or right and when they learn that far left is being practised at their expense they are not forgiving.
