How about the coastal regions? If the US were to land and take out the garrisons in the cities, or even Haiphong, that would have disrupted the NVA no end.

Our Air Power would put finish to a 20th Century NVA Military but not to the extent of eliminating the ability of the NVA to fight a grueling land battle , Americans would not put up with the loses which would be in the 100,000 killed and wounded .

I doubt if the NVA could have put up that kind of a fight after a sustained Linebacker-type campaign. The Vietnamese were NOT the Wehrmacht. And I'm talking division-sized campaigns, to take out the equivalent units, as opposed to a Normandy-sized invasion.

It took an NVA Soldier something like 90 days down the Ho trail to reach the Saigon area and during these 90 days he was bombed and shot at day and night a person willing to do that holed up in his own Country would be a force to reckoned with , as we found out in the South these people would not surrender you would have to kill them one by one .

They were no tougher than the Japanese Imperial Army, and the Japanese surrendered. Besides, as Jerry and I have been saying, they cannot fight if their military supplies have been bombed out of existence. Not only that, if we make the major incursions to destroy their military chain of command, they will be in no position to crawl to the south, except to claim refugee status.

The French had it right when they controlled Indo China , they didn't go out bashing through the bush they simply controlled the major trade centers and still would be a force to be reckoned with but they got stupid and backed the Japanese which put them on the s--t list . Many of the big battles were fought on the Michelin plantation , the French would display the Tri Color on their homes which enraged the Americans , guess which homes were the first to be burned down

SEATO Signed in Manila Sept. 4 1954 the U.S had Representatives in place to sign the treaty making the U.S. a member , the idea of course was to stop the spread of Communism .

To continue on my daily thoughts on winning the VN war, the Allies should also target the recruitment and training camps, to ensure the enemy cannot maintain its social structure, and to make them worry about their home ground, as opposed to them making us worry about ours.

Did VN separate the men from the boys ? I don't think so , made the boys men before their time , VN took away their youth made them crazy then they came home and went crazy , multiple marriages , rebellious , drugs and suicide , those that made it past this had to deal with it , had too 'cause there was no other place to go . Why would anyone want to go to VN there was no glory there .

i hate to break it to you but the vast majority of those men returning from RVN did not go crazy or become involved in murder, killing, drugs and suicide.... You are right, however, there was no glory - just a job to do...

It seems to me the nutcases were from drugs and such. More of a problem with the REMFs.
