Nice to see you're "getting the band back together," I was one of the old CompuServe gang, back in the day. Good luck! Excellent! I tried to join the military but couldn't because of my poor eyesight - my prescription glasses were far, far, higher that what was allowed. Did you know any of us when you were at CS?

Welcome aboard, even if you did wind up on the wrong side (officer) ;D. Although an enlisted weenie in the Army, I spent a memorable tour with VQ-1 flying in A-3s out of Atsugi, Japan. We were a very small detachment who manned the rear end of the Skywarrior with the three front enders being Navy guys. I was a SIGINTer all my career, retiring in '81. Brings back some fond memories.

Kyle, You were SAAD? The A-3 Skywarrior Association had a SAAD guy who was also very active in the AOC's Bay Area chapter, a LORAL bubba, was also very much into auto racing. He sadly passed away last year.

Swampy, I hung around until CIS faded away, especially after the big AOL buy-out and they dumped all the files, etc. 73510,1763!

He would've been about my age when he died (early 70s), if he is the same guy.

Hi Andy, Looks like I'm late in welcoming you to the new forum, but, better late than never. The dumping of the files goes back a long way - so welcome home! Good to see an aviator here. Are you still flying? anything?

Jerry, I picked up my FAA tickets while I was still flying in the Navy. I fly for pleasure now, both land and seaplanes, and as an AngelFlight volunteer pilot.
Best regards, Andy

You Army guys did some very remarkable work. Thanks. Best regards, Andy

Best regards, Andy Angel Flight does some great work. I'd like to participate but I'm afraid my Aeronca would take longer to get a patient anywhere than driving them in a car. What are you flying now?

I remember there were two Loral guys but one was either when I was brand new to the unit or replaced the other just before I left. I barely remember the name but I do remember that there were two during my tour. By any chance did you ever run across an A3 pilot by the name of (I think) LtCmdr Leonardi? We use to call him Ironjaw. There was a "rule" that anyone who used the pee tube during flight had to clean the plane after we landed. That sucker would wait until we got to altitude, turn the plane over to his co pilot and come back and pee. He'd just look at us, smile and say "the pee rule is ONLY for you Army weenies, so clean it up later boys!" Luckily we liked the guy but we sure hated cleaning that damn plane all the time! Denny

Welcome to the forum Andy. Good to see you here. I don't know anything about flying. (I have tired to stay out of planes after working as an aircraft mechanic for United for 4 years, and to this day I can't sleep on a plane. I stay awake in case the pilot needs me.) But I know a little about the Navy. I was a "Navy brat." Having experience that, i joined the Marines of course and spend some great time on ships. I hope you enjoy the forum.

Jerry, Right now, for the most part, I fly a '06 Cirrus Aircraft SR22 and in the summers, I get "pilot privileges" on a friend's '68 Citabria on floats. Very best regards, Andy
