As tensions in the mid-east escalate, the US sends a message it is not sure what it wants to do. Or should we read that differently?
TEL AVIV - Washington is sending a significantly smaller number of troops to Israel for a joint military drill scheduled to take place in October, a U.S. military official confirmed Sunday. The U.S. has vehemently denied reports that the reduction is a sign of tensions between the administrations of President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Israel's persistent threats to launch an airstrike on Iran. I think the US administration clearly knows what it wants - not to be drawn into the war between Israel and Iran, which Israel's government is pushing to distract from growing internal problems. The USA government is clearly in a post-interventionism mode.

And in the meantime, Iran continues its march toward becoming a nuclear player leading to domination of the entire mid-east and the very distinct possibility that terrorists will have nuclear weapons with which to carry on a more aggressive jihad...

Problem is that the US is bogged down on two fronts, and, even if it leaves, it will not be in a good position to fight a third war.

And this is a reason to turn your back on an ally? The US is bogged down, not because it is 'fighting' two wars (Afghanistan - almost and Iraq - presence only), but because it is financially in dire straights. We just can't afford to fight another war. I'll ask why?

Israel will do all it has to do to survive, US or no US.
If the chips are down, and the US in not behind Israel, then the world will know it, and that all the talk of the past decades was just that - TALK!
But Israel WILL survive, or drag her tormentors into hell with her. Her unofficial motto is "NEVER AGAIN", and if a nuke goes off over Tel Aviv, then Mecca will follow before day is out. All the major muslim cities will follow in short order.

An explosion deep within Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility has destroyed much of the installation and trapped about 240 personnel deep underground, according to a former intelligence officer of the Islamic regime. The regime’s uranium enrichment process takes place at two known sites: the Natanz facility with more than 10,000 centrifuges and Fordow with more than 2,700. The regime currently has enough low-grade (3.5 percent) uranium stockpiled for six nuclear bombs if further enriched. The explosion occurred Monday, the day before Israeli elections weakened Netanyahu’s political control. www.wnd.com/2013/01/sabotage-key-iranian-nuclear-facility-hit/

Jerry, I'm afraid this is going to be just the start of a large reduction in the US military as budgets are reduced. There have been plenty of warnings of what is coming down from the last 2 Sec. of Defense. The huge increases in budgets since 2001 were going to be reduced and Sec. Gates alluded to this also. What I'm most concerned about is the reduction of 'boots on the ground' and reduction in carrier battle groups.
