For my American colleagues its time to get with the program on the problems the U.S. is facing , the immigration issue to me is the biggest concern , then there's the deficit and of course health care , food stamps , welfare , tax reform ( flat tax is really the only fair way to tax ) these and other issues should be addressed by Americans in this forum as they do not affect others though impute from any is welcome .

Tet, Old man, we can discuss these issues night and day until we are all dead, and it won't make a bit of difference if we don't vote - and we won't get a chance to do that until 2014. However, If it would make you happy - I agree that everything you listed is a major issue facing us today. I can't agree that immigration is the biggest issue (though it may be for you). The deficit and health care (they are connected) have a much greater possibility of destroying the US than the immigration issue.
Then, of course, we have the unmentioned issue of an incompetent president who is so in love with his own voice that he speaks before thinking, and then doesn't even listen to what he is saying (or forgets what he said as soon as the teleprompter is removed). He and his loyal supporters are a major threat to the US. Again - this is an issue that will only be resolved at the ballot box.

"this is an issue that will only be resolved at the ballot box."
....by the 50% of the voters not too lazy to get off their bum! The other 50% will spend 4 years grizzling about the result.
Fascinating!

all of us has a Rubicon to cross I crossed mine in Vietnam when I got to thinking what the hell are we doing here and why do I spend a lot of time flying bodies down to Bein Hoa , Politicians put us here its true Al Gore spent some time there as Army correspondent an Kerry floated around in a miniature flotilla , I thought if we ever get out this place there wouldn't be anymore Vietnams , then came 9/11 and a whole lot of knee jerk reactions and we became a nation of Don Quixote's , we're still chasing wind mills in Afghan , I disagree that 2014 is gong to change anything , be the same old shit to shovel with maybe a different party in control , polls true and honest polls can bring down the mighty as Obama has found out of late , the people need to say what they think about things , we have become an obese lazy people , for every one person wanting change 12 don't care or want to be inconvenience .

Our 'Informal' vote is 5% or a bit less. That is defaced ballot papers, messed up numbering, and so on lodged by people who actually presented themselves at the polling place to vote. Very few actually fail to turn up.
This time, Preferential Voting has thrown up about 4 people with single issue platforms. One was elected by the 'Donkey Vote' by having his name on the far left of the Senate paper. He got about .5% of first preferences, but second and third preferences etc got him the seat. He is an unemployed bloke from somewhere.
He will get $190,000 plus perks for the next 6 years.

Choice of negativity perhaps . The battle for DC begins in your own front yard , we don't have to be in lock step with this fool who found out polls can eat you alive .
