The old digger passed out after finishing his second pint and hit the floor , in his slumber 'e dreamed of the glory days with him and 'is mates slipping and sliding through the mud and shit when they reached the top of the trail there was a dazzling brilliance standing there to meet them the old digger said look there its General Mac and the mates felt a renewed strength from the wonder of it all .

The dazzling brilliance was a reflection of the sun off his unearned MOH.
The MOH cred went down a few notches the day he got that gift from FDR. Same with Vandergrift!

Yes the MOH can be politicized at times as it seems to be in Afghan I have read up on a few of the citations I must say I'm a bit puzzled by some . Vandergrift was so inept that FDR had to do something with him either fire him or give him the MOH .

" either fire him or give him the MOH ."
I believe you, and it seems like the same deal with big mac.
The ones I like are the BIG bunch in the ACW that got a MOH for re-enlisting, and the 55 that got one in an after noon as some Spanish dump (Vera Cruze?), a few for jumping in and saving a mate who had fallen in the water.
John Basilone must be turning in his grave.

The thing that got him the MOH was going through jap lines to get ammo and water, and then returning back through to get them back.
