Rebels have seized a military base in the north, which will only give them more supplies. I understand Russia is supporting the Assad regime, which may be why the Allies haven't gotten done anything. Meanwhile, the Islamist faction is rejecting a coalition with the Western-backed rebels and have unilaterally declared an Islamic state. This could be good news, because it means the Western-back coalition will NOT have religious fanatics, and the West can be more confident about supporting them - while encouraging the Assad regime to fight the Islamist faction.

They're doing it in the city of Homs against the rebels. The government is on the verge of fighting a two-front war, because it is also engaged in an artillery shelling match with Turkey. I have been wondering why the allies aren't doing to it what it did to Libya, but it seems China and Russia are supporting the Assad government. I wouldn't let that stop me, because I think Nato can make short work of Syria even if it receives help from those two. To my knowledge, the Russians have some superpower military interests in Syria. They have a naval base in Tartous. The Chinese want to expand their global influence. In spite of those points, I believe that it would be possible to do in Syria the same thing as in Libya -- with very quick, effective action. That would leave the Russians and the Chinese with the already happened status quo, with nothing any more doable by them.
