Popeye said that. OK, sailor - you are who you are, and that's all you are. But who are you? We'd love to know.

Korean War Vet (1952 - 1953); retired USAF (1951 - 1972). Reside in Papillion, Nebraska. Former member of CompuServe Military Forum. One or two of current members here know me; one somewhat personally, I believe Sir John might remember me from other Forum...long time ago.

Just a guess,
Did you fly the P2V 'Neptune' way back in the olden days?

Click on the "reply" icon on the lower-right part of the thread. The alternative is to click on the "quote" icon on the upper-right hand of each person's post.

Click on it and it will quote the message you are replying to and give you a quote box and your reply which will look just like this... There are also icons for "modify" which is the same as the old 'edit' and one for "delete" which needs no explanation....

Sir John; replying to your both of your messages: Nope, not Tet; Kore, '52 - '53....No,I didn't fly anything, except a mechanic's wrench for a few years, pushed a pencil for a few more years, operated a computer and managed a computer operations branch from '61' to '72, at which time I retired after 20 years' service.. Served with the Air Force's Strategic Air Command from '62 - '72...decided to give it all a halt when my OIC reprimanded at Yokota Air Base, Japan ('68 - '71) for telling a young airman to button his coat: you understand; it was a uniform regulation thing...his jacket was completely open, flying in the wind like he was going to take off any second; I was brought through Basic to follow the rules....too much 'chicken' in my soul (please understand: I went through Basic when the Air Force was only 4 years old....I think that was a hundred years ago, or so it seems.) I think you know who I am, Friend John (Jerry already gave me away); we've talked a few messages, over in the old Forum.(Politically, I'm a hard-nosed S.O.B., and the sooner the White House is cleaned of all the Liberal, Leftist, treacherous, lecherous, traitorous vermin running around in it, the better! This country needs a clean-up job like it never had! iyamwhatiyam

Herb,
IMO this format is much better than the other one. It is the same as my main Australian Forum, so I am familiar with it. I was never all that comfortable with the Compuserve layout.
Jerry, is there a way of getting a 'Unread Messages' feature included here?

Didn't you say you were from NY at one point? You have an excellent memory, SJ: yes; I was born in New York City,, Manhattan, actually, but my parents lived in Brooklyn at the time of my birth; then after a few years, I guess, the family moved to the Bronx, and that's where I spent the bulk of my early life. I enlisted into the Air Force after I turned 17; on my 17th birthday, I pounded on the Recruiter's doors to "....lemmee in!" Two weeks later I was in Basic Training; 6 months later I found myself in "Frozen Chosen": Korea. Actually, I volunteered for Korea: believe it or not, and you can believe it, they were going to send a married man to Korea, and send ME to Big Springs Air Force Base, Texas. Now, why in %$#@ would they send a single guy to a stateside base, and a married man to Korea, away from his wife, and for all I knew, a family? We both went to the Orderly Room (do they have 'Orderly Rooms' anymore?), whereupon I asked them what in in the world were they thinking...sending this married man to a war zone? Well, John to shorten this tale, we switched assignments: he remained stateside, I went to Korea. iyamwhatiyam.
