In Vietnam there were times when the Rubber meets the Road and you had a Nano second to decide if you wanted to be the Rubber or the Road .

No problems with 10,000 rounds per soldier.
and 50,000 per door gunner!
Read a bit the other day that said the US used 50,000 rounds of 5.56 to kill each bad guy. I immediately thought of Tet!

I saw a clip from Tet a few years ago. It showed a couple of GIs behind a rock wall. They both had M16s and a stack of magazines each. They were loading up, hoisting the rifle over the top and emptying the mag is 3 seconds.
Rinse and repeat!
And another clip with a bunch of GIs and a bunch of Diggers in a firefight. The GIs were all on full auto and the Diggers were on semi auto. Ours were aimed shots and the GIs were all over the countryside.
Reminded me of a door gunner I know!

Aimed fire in a fire fight a bit of a stretch that the enemy were using AK'S on full throttle plus you can always through in a few RPG's aimed shots was not an option

Sorry, the GI/Digger clip was in Afghanistan not VN.
It looked to me as if the good guys knew where the fire was coming from and had an identified target.
Anyway, most GIs could not hit the side of a barn, or a pickle barrel, anyway!

Afghan is a no win the way its being fought its like the Apaches an Comanche's being chased by the U.S. Calvary in the western U.S. the Calvary never caught up with the Indians unless the Indians wanted them to , the Calvary finally learned destroy the Villages then there was no place for the Indians to go .

Very non-PC of them too!
They also figured out that killing all the buffalo starved them all to death.
