Number one mistake for Vegemite first timers is to spread too much, just a light smear is best.

NEVER!
The thicker the spread the better, preferably smeared from ear to ear. Like the babies weaned at 3 months, torn from the mothers breast, and handed a cheese and Vegemite sandwich
Makes then grow up big and strong, and "happy little Vege-mites".
DON'T TELL THE AMERICANS!

The Japs turned off the water , saved lives by surrendering , many more lives were lost in custody then from actual fighting , if Perceval had kicked some arse , it wouldn't have been the Empire surrendering , one can only have to imagine if Rommel or Lee had been in charge what the out come would have been .

Must disagree, the British/Australian defence of the island was futile.
You cannot support 90,000 men plus the civilian population for long without food, water and munitions. The terrain of the Malay Peninsular was such that it was a fair assumption that a military force should not have been able to do it so easily, but they did.
The actual invasion was not expected or prepared for, so was basically unopposed. Remember, all this was only hours and days after Pearl Harbor. To have slowed the invasion all the way to 15th Feb is not a bad effort really. The Australians in particular did well in the initial mainland actions.
The USN was not prepared for war either!

Correct about water supplies Sir John. Regarding Hong Kong I spent half a day exploring the WW2 defences a few years ago and where the Japanese had fooled the Allies by climbing a cliff and crossing a dam with folding boats to attack the covered trenches that faced the sea and then dropping grenades down ventilation shafts. t I understand that the Japs constructed an identical model for their soldiers to practise the HK assault on. Why the Allies did not prepare all round defensive positions is a mystery, more British bungling? I did research on this, Premier, when I was collecting material for my work on the Second Sino-Japanese War. The British had untrained personnel, including Canadian reservists who were not ready to be shipped out. That said, these brave men held on for quite awhile, tying down the Japanese forces that would later be destroyed at Guadalcanal. When a bunch of outnumbered and outfought soldiers last two weeks, they can only be applauded - even the Japanese radio propoganda admitted that, and, as Churchill said, they fought the good fight.

This is all well and good , but one must remember the Empire had been at war for two years with Germany who was holding hands with Japan , Percey was at the club while Yamashita was preparing a differnt type of club .

True, but Germany was the 'here and now' of war, and we had been at war for that 2 years waiting for our mates to turn up, but there was no sign of the 7th Cavalry. John Wayne was still doing basic.
The year 1941 was a bad one for the Empire, His Majesty, and his First Minister! (GOD Bless 'em All! The long and the short and the tall.)
"The Blitz", all 9 months of it, had delivered a WTC every 3 weeks or thereabouts, to the long suffering people of London, 44,000 "innocent civilians" dead I think it was. Up to late 1941 the idea of the Far East was just a sideshow that MAY have ended up being a problem, but spare Divisions and spare Squadrons were simply not available.
Even spare battleshipos and battle-cruisers were a stretch.
THEN the 7th turned up!

Dressden one night , one single night , 55,000 , makes the blitz small by comparison , Bomber Harris , kill them all , the Yanks were appalled when the they went over the next day . The Empire and France declared a war they could not win , it was the blind leading the blind , fortunate for all there was the last American . Percey didn't need any spares he outnumbered the Japs 3 to 1 .

Yep, an eye for an eye,
Payback for the Blitz, and who cares about the "innocent civilians", certainly not the Luftwaffe.
...and the USAAF had a hand in that little raid too remember, at Russia's request don't forget.

....I think you will find that by 1945, the average Brit could not give a stuff about German civilians, be they in Berlin or Dresden or any German city.
The Russians were in full 'pay back mode' too! Fifty five million dead, including 6 million "innocent Jewish civilians" leached out any compassion human beings had for them.
They had spent almost 6 years fighting and dying to rid the world of peace loving Nazis, AND the people that cheered them as they marched past.
End of rant!

The USAAF flew over Dressden the next day saw the damage saw there were no military targets and were appaled at what they saw , there was a big do over that one and Churchill had to bail out bomber harris .

Are you claiming that the USAAF did NOT bomb Dresden?
By early 1945 the allies were only "bouncing the rubble" anyway!

I Sir am stating that the USAAF dropped the majority of their bombs away from Dresden onto empty fields and returning to the Empire filed formal complaits against Bomber Harris in which Churchill had to sallie forth to defend that idiot . The Empire it seems had an abundace of idiots . Foot note read Slaughter house five . The US were well aware there was a large POW camp at Dresden .
