I remember reading years ago that the Russians have NEVER actually repaid a Bond Issue since 1917. Always 'Rolled over' and the only cash the 'investor' sees is the interest payment. NONE of the Lend Lease to Russia of WW2 was ever repaid. Britain made her last payment on 31/12/1996. Australia was granted an equal credit for providing almost all of the food the Allied troops ate in the Pacific. Even the Turkey and ice cream! (For US troops ONLY) The city of Melbourne completed a fancy new 400 bed hospital in early 1942 which was handed over to the US Army and they sent 30,000 troops home to "mom" after being patched up. Our richest man then finished a 7 storey department store and he hande that over to the US for the duration, and it was the original HQ. PS. There is only ONE genuine form of currency and value - GOLD. SJ

PS. There is only ONE genuine form of currency and value - GOLD. I thought your byline said to buy silver and bury it deep. Whatever happened to that?

I have both, as many of us do but never forget that "silver is the poor man's gold".
I know one bloke that has over 3000 ozs of silver, and only about 60 ozs of gold. RICH retired Lawyers will probably add a few noughts to that!
A Walking Liberty, or Maple Leaf, are good for a trolley full of groceries while a 10 Oz bar is too much gold for one transaction apart from a major 'investment'. And in MNHO the 'upside' of silver is FAR greater than gold.
Bury it deep, and tell NOBODY.

"What makes gold so special? What about the other precious metals?"
I keep an eye on them, (but never worry about market fluctuations) but lack of 'in the street demand' is probably the main reason, Ask your average American etc about Palladium and all you will get is a blank look. A Silver Maple Leaf is a survival tool, and a Gold Eagle is for investment.

I also have both, buried deep in a bolted down gun safe. Mostly in bullion, such as my 100 oz silver bar and countless 1 oz silver bullion coins and many 1 oz gold bars. Also a few US Liberty & Saint-Gaudens $20.00 gold coins. -Don- Reno, NV

Yes, but nobody knows which country I am in, or which state or city.
Or where the goodies are buried!

Yes, but nobody knows which country I am in, or which state or city. Or where the goodies are buried! BYO shovel! SJ I guess I am nobody as I know you're in the country with the ten most venomous snakes in the world. Maybe they can protect your gold! Back on the subject of Ukraine, what most likely happened, IYO, to the Crimean Bridge on Oct 8? The Ukraine government claims they had nothing to do with the explosion. We can be pretty sure Russia didn't do it, so what really happened? Perhaps some Ukraine people decided to do it on their own? What are the possibilities. Or does Ukraine have a reason to NOT claim responsibility? It sure is/was a nice-looking modern bridge: -Don- Reno, NV

Back OT,
Safes are a big signal that stuff worth having is inside, and the bad guys know that. The diamond ring on the bedside table is of no interest.
They will lift the safe somehow and take it away for later attention. Maybe with an angle grinder?

Nothing is 100% safe, not even if you bury it deep. But yeah, I recall one guy who would ONLY rip-off houses that had alarms. He figured if no alarm, there isn't much worth ripping off. He used to work for an alarm company, so he knew how to take care of that. He was also a dog trainer once and he ripped of safes in houses that had dogs and alarms while people slept and had no idea they were ripped-off until it was too late. I think it was on Masterminds (TV) where I saw his story. But he finally did get busted. -Don- Reno, NV

We had a ex SAS soldier who did 5 tours in Afghanistan. They earned a fortune well in the half million dollar range.
When he left the army he put most of it into physical gold, and said too much too often in too many places like pubs etc.
Came home from a weekend away and they had taken the lot. AFAIK they never got any back.

First 'they' is the SAS troops, and the second 'they' is the bad guys that did the deed. The third 'they' is the soldiers family I guess.
Ya can't trust ANYBODY nowadays!
