Just a bit theatrical thunder in revenge for cheating and let the inteligence services look stupid, but if Iran isn't paying close attention to deescalate it might cause an unwanted war.

After the 'Canadian Caper', when we got a number of Americans out during the Iranian Hostage crisis at the US embassy in 1979-1980, the Iranians would have likely suspected us of helping the US again, so it was a prudent move to get out before any hostilities occurred. If other countries start to 'leave the sinking ship' in anticipation of possible hostilities it may make the Iranians think again about their current track or make them even more paranoid and therefore more dangerous to democratic embassy staff.
