Fast and Furious The Office of the Inspector General for the Department of Justice has released a 400 page report, concluding the internal DOJ investigation into Operation Fast and Furious. Current IG Michael Horowitz will present key findings in the report tomorrow during a Congressional Oversight hearing on Capitol Hill. Horowitz took over the IG position in March when former IG Cynthia Schnedar stepped down. Schnedar, who did the bulk of the work in the report, is a long time friend of Attorney General Eric Holder and worked for him during his time as U.S. Attorney in Washington D.C. DOJ Deputy Assistant Attorney General Jason Weinstein, who played a heavy role during Fast and Furious and in its scandalous aftermath, submitted his resignation just moments ago. townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2012/09/19/breaking_fast_and_furious_inspector_general_report_releasedI wouldn't expect any action on Obama's part either before or after the election. This is another example of just how cozy things are between this administration and the media.

Holder put out a statement just moments ago, here it is in part.
I have reviewed the Office of the Inspector General’s report on Operation Fast and Furious and the key conclusions are consistent with what I, and other Justice Department officials, have said for many months now:
-The inappropriate strategy and tactics employed were field-driven and date back to 2006;
-The leadership of the Department did not know about or authorize the use of the flawed strategy and tactics; and
-The Department’s leadership did not attempt to cover up information or mislead Congress about it. The last line is key, "The Department’s leadership did not attempt to cover up information or mislead Congress about it." Holder seems to have forgotten about the February 4, 2011 Fast and Furious letter edited multiple times by Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer, signed by Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich, submitted to Congress and withdrawn nine months later due to being full of false and misleading information. Holder also seems to have forgotten about the 74,000 Fast and Furious documents he has refused to hand over to Congressional investigators and his exective privilege bailout from President Obama back in June, further preventing Congress from obtaining more information. As a reminder, Holder changed his testimony about when he first found out about Fast and Furious, multiple times under oath.

The second best thing about defeating Obama in November will be getting rid of Holder.... The first won't happen and the second will probably take care of itself by his resignation after the election. I would think that he feels he has served long enough and it's time to go out and do what lawyeres do - make money. I just saw on the news yesterday that Holder apparently wasn't informed about Fast n' Furious until it was well on its way.

What would have happened to you if you found out that one of your troops was selling pot in the barracks five months after he started selling it and you did nothing? I doubt you'd keep your job.

Ramos: Shouldn't Attonrey General Eric have known about that and if he didn't shouldn't you fire him?
Obama: “I think it’s important for us to understand that the Fast and Furious program was a field-initiated program begun under the previous administration. When Eric Holder found out about it, he discontinued it. ( As a matter of fact Fast and Furious was initiated in September 2009 and was carried out starting in October 2009, well into President Obama's first term.)We assigned a inspector general to do a thorough report that was just issued, confirming that in fact Eric Holder did not know about this, that he took prompt action and the people who did initiate this were held accountable.”
Obama: "Eric Holder has my complete confidence."
