We have been discussing Army air in a couple of other threads and I ran across this in an AOPA electronic News letter: ¡S.D. Army National Guard adds upgraded helicopter to fleet The South Dakota Army National Guard has added an upgraded helicopter to its fleet to help fight wildfires in the state. The L-model Black Hawk helicopter can lift 9,000 pounds from its external hook, which helps crews load more water to fight fires. "We can haul in the full load that we need to haul, which puts more water on the fire to slow it down so the boots on the ground can get in there and work," said Laverne Hermanson, a South Dakota wild-land fire aviation officer. I'l have to admit I don't know if this machine is new to the Army or just new to the Army National Guard. Anyone have any ideas?
