McCain: >>Piggybacking on his 2008 vice presidential pick’s comments on Tuesday night, the Arizona Republican told Fox News he thinks “it might be wise” for President Barack Obama to reconsider picking Biden as his running mate and instead put Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the ticket, according to Fox News.
“But it’s not going to happen…If I were Hillary Clinton, I’m not sure I’d want to be on that team,” he added. “I think that her ambitions, very frankly, are for 2016. And I’m not sure that would enhance that likelihood.”<<
For a “Republican” he seems very interested in the activities of the Democrats. IMO he could have been more focused on the Rep. party and THE issues.

Hillary has said she isn't going to continue. Besides, she's too much a lightning rod for everyone.

As always, as an outsider looking in, I must say that on this side of the Pacific I cannot see too many (very few) 'impressive' pollies over there.
My overall favourite is Chris Christie, with Condi Rice and Ron Paul close behind, but I cannot see anyone else on my TV.
I certainly would not like the job anytime in the next 8 years at least.

Yes, and on the other side of his isle sits the Republicans.

SJ Your opinion as an "outsider" is very significant. Not to mention perceptive. However, Christie needs to lose over 200 lbs or he will die early from his morbid obesity and where would that leave us, Rice will never again be a strong figure (if she ever was) in US politics because she is perceived to be weak, and Ron Paul is WAY too old. I happen to like all the three, especially Christie and Rice, but they will not figure in this election. Interesting though that Christie is being given a prime spot in the upcoming GOP convention. This frequently means that this individual is being groomed by higher position. However, as stated earlier, unless he loses 200 lbs or more, he may not be around by the time of the next election.

I happen to like Bobby Jindle (sp?) of Lousiana. His handling of the BP Oil spill was outstanding! (More than outstanding when compared to the handling of the Katrina situation by his predicessor)

It is good to have Rice and West around to help counter the likes of Colin Powell who led the Republicans for Obama in 2008. RINOS have been the kiss of death for the Republican Party. RINOS are so soft hearted that they don't know when they are being mugged, and might not fight back even if they knew.

I don't hold Powell's stance on Obama against him, even though I disagreed with it. He did too much good for this country to make one single act destroy everything else. Besides, I personally feel that if one is solely a Republican or solely a Democrat, they miss being able to combine the best of the two. I know that means a dirty word here - compromise - but I fought so that we all could have our opinion and voice it and I'll be damned if I'll let a label dictate how I'll vote. I think there are radicals on both sides of the aisle and I feel sorry to those who are unable to think for themselves and determine how they want to live.

Powell voted by color. If that isn't being racist what is? You say he did much good for the country, could you expand on this? I don’t recall he accomplished much of anything.
As I see it, he was handed his promotions because of his color. He learned to be a politician and take from both sides, both the Republicans and the Democrats. It was not equal opportunity, there was nothing equal about it. It was the quota system. You will promote blacks, even if you have to lower standards to do so.
And sweet Connie was smart enough not to say just whom she was voting for. You can only guess.
And I do not consider myself racist. I support Allen West and have a high regard for Thomas Sowell, both well educated blacks.

I support Allen West and have a high regard for Thomas Sowell, both well educated blacks. Powell had a number of things going for him, not the least of which was that he was extremely intelligent, able to work the system and was an outstanding strategic thinker, not so much tactical. He was fortunate in that he was active during a period of our history where "civil rights" was at the forefront and those of color had the best opportunity to rise than at any other time. The fact that he took advantage of that is testament to his abilities. Regardless of his color, I believe his ability to work with ALL (the word "compromise" implied) parties proves to me his "smartness". As I've stated many times, anyone who hews a single path will at one time or another be left behind. Actually I don't think I quite said it that way but you probably get the drift. I don't remember even insinuating that you were a racist and frankly wouldn't care if you were.

Powell did compromise on some things, but he was unwavering in his basic war fighting philosophy - massive force, delivered agressively until victory is accomplished. Simple and effective....

That is how the USA prevailed in WW2. In fact it is the ONLY way to win a war. Something everyone seems to have forgotten. Forcing the enemy to "cry uncle" as you say over there.
That usually involves a certain amount of killing, including mothers and babies.

That's what war is all about. In a 'clean' war, not enough people suffer so they go on for years and accomplish nothing....
