In spite of increasing numbers of elegible folks, it seems that Tricare is currently running a surplus. Some folks want to grab these funds fo other uses.
Tom Philpott | August 22, 2012 So the Department of Defense wants to "reprogram" into other accounts $708 million in surplus TRICARE dollars, "to cover higher than expected fuel prices, the unscheduled deployment of a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East and higher transportation costs tied to Pakistan's closure of the main land route for U.S. supplies into Afghanistan." This is why Social Security is in such bad straits. Rather than reduce fees to military personnel who are underpaid to begin with, or rather than bank any "surplus" to cover future increases, such as rising medical costs due to Obamacare, Defense officials think this is their piggybank. You mentioned "to cover higher than expected fuel prices, “ The department of defense paid $26/gallon for fuel using Obama’s algae and ethanol concoction.. And we are talking millions of gallons here as part of his green energy scheme.
