I remember it well, I was in the school hospital with some horrible life threatening disease, when the radio announced the feat.
It was a but a few days prior to the Coronation of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth 2nd, (direct desc of King George 3rd).
Who is Russell Crowe?
And FYI, New Zealand's greatest achiever was a horse called Phar Lap, born in NZ, but trained and raced in Australia. She was and still is our most famous race-horse, but soon to be surpassed by another called 'Black Caviar' who just won her 24th straight out of 24 races.
Phar Lap went to America in 1932, won his only start there, and was poisoned by them soon after.
