The Germans were fools to focus on the lesser enemy; they should have retreated and let the Polish rebels mix it with the Soviets.

Their problem was trying to defend everywhere, in which case they defended nowhere. They should have pulled back from Africa, Norway, Denmark, and the Balkans and put everything on the Eastern front, to fight the Soviets to a draw, so as to make a separate peace. If that happened, they could then have negotiated with the Anglo-Americans.
That said, they were being bombed day and night, so they probably couldn't have won anyway, but, if they were to have any chance, they would have had to consolidate, which they didn't.

I said that, if the Germans were to have any hope, it would be to contain the Soviets first. As for whether the Soviets were going to agree, I remember reading that Molotov was sending feelers for a ceasefire, but nothing came of that, and, after a point, he didn't need to.
