TK,
I've known about the Amero for quite awhile. Many years ago, I got a fellowship to study for an MA in Canadian Studies in the US, and, when I visited my alma mater a few years ago, before the Meltdown, the consensus was that the three countries would get closer and closer and eventually form some sort of union.
I think, as the US economy recovers, the US will want ever closer ties with Canada, and, if Mexico gets it act together, with Mexico as well.
I'd go further and ask to have a union to include not just the Caribbean but also the states in Central America.

I I can see all this as the first step toward a one world government and I'm not for it. Look at the trouble Europe is having with their Mediterranean pals. Even though all have read and agreed to abide by the rules, some cheat.
We here have trouble keeping Washington DC on the straight and narrow. I don’t believe we can police the whole of Centeral America.

We can't police Central America - they have to get their act together. But, if they can make those steps, and, since Mexico is getting its act together, I would support greater economic integration.
As for one currency, I used to support it, but, with the problems facing the Euro, I would not. Another reason I would not is the optimal currency area, which is an economic theory saying that different areas would benefit by having different currencies, even if those areas are within the same country. As an armchair economist, I would agree.

I've changed the title of this thread, because we already have a thread with the same title. I'm looking forward to discussing North American integration.
