Not one from WW1 that always came off second best against a red Fokker?

I don't know what you're referring to, but that was the dawn of fighter planes, so the situation was different then. By WW2, the Mustang, when equipped with the Rolls Royce engine, outperformed the Spitfure and enemy fighters. The Grumman Hellcat was better than the Japanese Zero. Even in the 1970's, the F-14 to F-16 series outperformed every other jet fighter on the planet.
And that's only fighters - when you talk of spy planes like the U-2 or SR-71 ......

The Spitfire Mk14 and the P51D entered service on about the same day.
They ran a test, and the Spitfire 14 won ALL of them except range!
Been reading too much Yank propaganda! Setting up a Mustang D model and a Spitfire 5 or so is BS.
