The Germans did quite well considering their Handy- caps . Rommel's biggest advantage was Monty .

One of the major factors in the success of the Siege was that the Italian defences, the anti tank ditch, the weapons pits every 300 yards and so on were available on day 1.
Even much of the mine fields had been laid.

Quite a few of the 'Swag men' of the Depression years joined up in 1939/40, and found their way into the 2nd AIF at Tobruk.

(Does America have these golf putting places called "Putt-Putt"? My FIL always said that getting a job building these "got me out of the depression".

The AIF called themselves "6 bob a day tourists".
The wage was 6 shillings = 60 cents a day, with married men having 50c taken out for the wife.

6 shillings a day outrageous too much far too much no wonder they needed to pay the Queen an additional 7 million this year , by the way what does the Queen do besides being a Queen .

The Diggers were one of the lowest paid soldiers in the "Empire".
Now they are about the highest paid in the world.
Grandson is a Trooper, and is getting north of $60,000 a year. Grand-daughter will be a Sqn Leader (Major) in June, on just south of $100,000 a year.
I would not take on QE2's job for ANY money.
