This idea has been around for decades. The government should provide for the needy, at least to a Canadian who likes his safety net. But there are too many overlapping programs, so the best way is to provide a universal income, so the user can decide how he wants to spend the money. This will eliminate a ton of bureaucracy, and it would allow the free market to work.

That is the same here, but please don't believe that it will reduce bureaucracy, because you will find one million new points that need to administered to make it fair.
