If so, please weigh in on your take on the current presidential campaign and the platforms they espouse. I'm getting tired of reading the same old, same old responses from TPers and those from the GOP on this forum (well, really everywhere as far as that's concerned). I'd like to see another side of the equation.

I'd like to see another side of the equation. OK Denny, You asked for it. i have been a registered Democrat since I was able to vote - because my father, my grandfather and all my Uncles were registered Democrats (except for one who was a Communist). As a Democrat I am supposed to be loyal to the party as you can attest the Democrats are much more loyal to their party than are the Republicans (a Democrat Tea Party would be unthinkable). Out of loyalty i must defend the following policies: 1) The vast majority of US citizens are not all that smart, therefore the government needs to take care of them by providing a minimum wage (if they are actually working), guaranteed health care, food stamps if their income is below a level as determined by a knowledgeable board of bureaucrats appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture. 2) Plants and animals are much more important than people, and less able to care for themselves, therefore the government must protect their very existence even at the expense of any unfortunate soul who might own the land upon which they reside. 3) The governments of states are incapable of governing or allocating resources, therefore the federal government shall collect all taxes, and the various secretaries and their boards and committees shall decide how much of that tax money will be returned to the States and tell them how it will be spent. 4) The free market in unfair in that some businesses fail and some succeed. Therefore, the government shall decide who has the right to succeed and will subsidize them (from funds collected from other successful businesses) to ensure they do not fail. 5) Coal and oil are evil - unproven sources of energy shall be subsidized to ensure they are ready to replace these evil sources of energy as soon as we can make coal and oil so expensive the newer, cleaner sources of energy can compete. 6) Human life is replaceable and not sacred as some would have you believe - late term abortions are the right if the mother decides she doesn't want to give birth to a 'fetus' that will take enormous amounts of care for up to 18 or more years. 7) Currently successful businesses and individuals did not succeed on their own and therefore should be taxed at a rate that will allow granting some of their success to others not as fortunate. Just off the top of my head - more to follow if you want it.... |

I like to see that kind of stuff even if I don't believe in it. Just out of curiousity, do YOU agree with what you wrote? All this time and I thought you were a Republican. So far there are 11 members who have participated in the new forum and only Don and myself have ever expressed that the GOP isn't infallible, so I'm surprised that you have joined us (?).

My whole point is that I'd like to see another point of view rather than the one we keep bandying around on the forum. It's like watching Fox News all the time, you already know what people will think and say. A two way discussion would be far more interesting. |

I registered as a Democrat when it came time to register for my first ever vote and have remained registered Democrat ever since. When I started voting, the Democrat party was pretty much the party of the "working man" but in the years since it has become pretty much the party of the "non-working man". I keep my Democrat registration so I can vote in the primaries for the Democrat candidate least likely to win in the general election. (My very own 'protest vote') |

Denny, I think that one reason you haven't seen too much of what the Democrats are espousing is that they haven't had much to say as to what they believe in and what their platform is going to be except to increase taxes on the 'rich' and support gay marriage. The only thing even indicating they even defend Obamacare is to have the birth control broad (Fluke?) as a featured speaker at the convention. The rest of what they have had to say is nothing more than bashing Romney.... |

I hadn't really thought about that before, but you're right. I've complained about Obama and his scorch the earth policy and what I want to see is two separate platform statements saying this is what we believe in. My guess is that we will never see anything like that because as soon as one says something, the other will attack it. I'm sick of the hypocritical bastards.
