Prussian General Von Moltke said there was no point in studying the American Civil War because it had been fought by armed mobs . The off spring of those mobs fought the off spring of Moltkes Prussians in WWI and WWII .

Just a couple of skirmishes in WW1!
A bit more in WW2.
And I am willing to bet that Germany had officers as 'Observers' during much of the ACW.

I know there was at least one Prussian Observer with Lee's Army during the Gettysburg campaign .

The intervention of the American Army in WWI was enough to tip the scales in favor of the worn out Allied effort against an equally worn out German Army . In WWII pretty much the same thing on a much larger scale .

In WWII pretty much the same thing on a much larger scale . We're drifting from the ACW, but we all like talking about the two World Wars. Anyway, the American Army did far more than tip the scales; they made the difference between victory and defeat. Without the US, Germany would have dominated Europe in both world wars.

In parts Moltke was right, it was the Napoleonic Wars fought again in North America, but still the ACW added some new fields for military scientists to think about, like the use of trains, balloons or armored ships. One of the German officers present during the ACW was young Graf Zeppelin, who had a special interest in the observation balloons and their problems. But for Moltke this all was too advanced (and it took some decades to mature), he didn’t understood this.

I think the ACW was the first industrial war, in which one side used its unique industrial strength to churn out endless war supplies.

I am fairly certain that the USA sent 'Observers' to the Crimean War, and the practice was widespread before that, even to Waterloo, i think. Not sure if we had any US personel at Tobruk! John Wayne probably.
Silly not to really.

Maj.General McClellan who marched his Army up the Virginia penisiula towards Richmond and got his arse kicked by none other than R.E.Lee and cie. , was an American observer in the Crimean War .

I read somewhere years ago that observers at 1st Bull Run had to join the retreat with the Union Army.

Col. Blimp who Led the retreat said they needed a little of the Empire's steel to transform them from a bloody mob into some of the Empires finest , needless to say Blimp had forgot that he was not in the Empire .
