I've been with the Compuserve military forum for a long time, and I still cherish my memories there. But we have to move on, and this forum provides better software, so we're here.
You all know me - I'm a lawyer from Vancouver, doing mainly divorces, but I'm actually a general practitioner. That said, I also graduated from the Nitze School at Johns Hopkins, considered THE best school in the world for a terminal masters in international affairs. David, another member at the old place, got his masters and PhD, and I hope he'll join us.
I never joined the military, but I'm still an armchair strategist, willing to talk about anything - you know a lawyer who doesn't like to talk?

Since some of the 'old timers' are re-introducing themselves, I guess I should also. After all my teachers in high school thought I should go to college (I just wanted to raise dairy cows), I ended up at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. During freshman registration it was required that all male students sign up for at least two years of ROTC, and since the line at the Signal Corps table was the shortest - that's where I ended up. I found this brush with the military fascinating and signed on for the advanced two years. I graduated a DMG (Distinguished Military Graduate) and was offered a Regular Army Comission. Served for 20 years active and gained the rank of LTC by working my way through Platoon Leader, Company Commander and Battalion Commander, interspersed with a number of Staff jobs mostly in Plans and Operations, though I did one tour in DCSPER in USAREUR. After retirement I entered the field of community mental health as the director of Crisis Intervention. Promotions again led me to be the Director of Outpatient Services when a major disagreement with the Executive Director caused my resignation. I opened my own private practice with offices in three towns in South Central Pennsylvania. I then retired for good when reaching age 62, but decided to buy an air plane so went back to work as a Lab Tech in a research facility raising all kinds of insects for research purposes. Somewhre along the lines, I joined the Military Forum of CompuServe - back in the day that it was considered a "Professional Forum" and cost extra money to be a member (had to know DOS commands then also). You all pretty much know what has transpired since then and here we are!!

Well why not? I joined the Army after Duke University, intending to simply get it out of the way prior to going on to my job for the rest of my life as a golf pro. Funny how life makes your decisions for you as the golf pro never happened but I did make it a career in the Army. I was originally in the Army Security Agency (ASA - Army equivalent to NSA) which changed over to Military Intelligence (MI) in the mid 70s. Following my retirement in '81, I joined E-Systems (later bought by Raytheon) and ultimately retired from there in '99 after several years of leading their international trade shows group as marketing communications manager. My wife I and then moved to Sun City, TX and began the rest of our lives. We enjoy RVing (we are currently in SW CO where we spend our summers every year) and go to various places through the West sight seeing and rockhounding.
