The Empire was severely mistaken of their Japanese opponent , the Japanese came down the Malaysian peninsula like s--t through a goose and Percy was confounded as what to do about it even though he out numbered Yamashita 2 to one , Percy and his staff met at the club to discuss it over a pink gin , Percy's Army was of Brits , India and OZ and were basically useless in fact Percy was pretty useless himself , so Percy decided to meet up with Yamashita to see what could be worked out , what was worked out was Percy's Army was sent to Burma to build a Railroad for the Japanese .

That's what I said many years ago in the old place, and that caused a flame war.

It just wonders my mind that someone like Percy could be placed in charge of anything but he was a member of the Empires old boy club so that must explain it .

The Japanese had the air power but only two infantry divisions while Percy had 90-100 thousand men , Percy wanted to spare the civilians of Singapore which was a joke as the Japanese murdered over 50,000 of them because they had Chinese ancestors .

Japanese cruelties were well known the Japanese private could be beaten by his superiors so he found nothing wrong with passing it on .

The Malaya Campaign has been flogged to death.
Agree about Percival, but remember the Japanese were all seasoned troops with lots of experience. The defenders were the opposite, and the leadership was horrible.
What more is there to say? Bit like Bataan really!

In my best estimate the EMPIRE was without leadership , did Percy really believe that things would be better under Japanese occupation .

A Bloke was asked what he did in the war I built railroads for the Japanese he replied , when asked weren't the Japanese the enemy he said you'd have to ask Percy about that .
