I very much doubt that Australia has a homeless rate anywhere near that of the USA. They were everywhere in 2000 and 2004.
Twenty living on Santa Monica beach alone.
But our public housing has been swamped by the influx of 'refugees', where they go to the top of the list and the Australians go to the bottom. I know of 2 people who have been on the waiting list for over 8 years. And I have read that some cities are over 12 years.
