Maybe that's because we were protected by two oceans and one staunch ally. That, of course is changing because of advances in technology, but attitudes change much more slowly than science...
"Americans are notorious for their ignorance of global issues and international news. This may be because Americans aren’t interested or it may be that our news outlets feed us fluff and focus us only on the U.S. Probably it’s a vicious cycle."
Said it here a few times, "West of the Golden Gate, and East of the Statue of Liberty"

I remember my old Geography master back in the '50s telling us that the USA was almost unique in the world, in that it seems to have been made to order by god.
If a 'designer' wanted to map out a new country he would ask for two BIG oceans on its flanks to protect it, he would want a major mountain range in the western half to push the weather patterns upwards.
He would ask for a couple of major river systems and catchments to feed them. He would ask for fertile soils suitable for just about anything and, vitally, a HUGE supply of all of the most important minerals. You only lack diamonds, and one other metal that I cannot bring to mind. Platinum or Palladium I think.
You then added the most important ingredient, human beings that had the gumption to get off their bum and go out and improve their lot, by migrating far across the sea.
I do fear you are losing that vital ingredient.

It comes down to this what the U.S. does the world does , this forum is 80% American politics , why ? because American politics are crazy , something different , something for everyone , Americans as whole don't care about off shore politics , why because there's nothing really interesting going on , the biggest thing of late the Empire had a baby but that didn't last but a day or two , so what else is new ? .
If the question was changed to "how many Americans under the age of 30" are interested in what goes on in the world, I'd say the answer is damn few. Those of us with a few years on our bones have a much deeper interest on what happens elsewhere. certainly not to the extent of most foreigners, but still I like to keep up with what is going on in other places.
The only interest I have in other places is historical ie , Rome , Greece , Vietnam , though I'm over it , other than those and a few others , zero interest .
