True, Paul, but the point remains that the US Navy would have been able to sustain the damage from those planes, especially since the Japanese pilots wouldn't have had much training. The "pilots" who brought down the World Trade Center didn't have much training either. Doesn't take much to crash an airplane into something valuable.... True, but those pilots didn't have picket ships trying to shoot them down, and no one knew they were coming.

What if the U.S knew about the high jacked air planes would the President order them shot down ? doubtful with all those innocent people aboard , just not the way Americans think .

No same issue Americans don't like Americans killed in wars military or terrorist in the case of the bomb and Japan the issue that came up by many Americans was to demonstrate to the Japanese what we had BEFORE dropping it on Japan , this is how the American mind set works hesitation before action same with 9/11 .

If you get through, you crash your airplane into a big boat - If you don't get through - the result is the same for you.... End of training, gentlemen, start your engines....

Evasive maneuvers, chief. They can't just fly towards the carriers; they have to learn how to avoid flak.

Of all the clips of Okinawa etc, I do not think I can recall a Kamikazi taking evasive action.
The pilot just picked out a target and went for it.

....and given that only one tracer is visible in every 5 shells that are fired, flak avoidance is a faint hope.

Lawyers always know how to avoid flak ... actually, forget what I just said.
Anyway, evasive maneuvers would be standard procedure, or so I presume.

When flying any attack run, evasive maneuvers consist of bowing your head, folding your hands and verbalizing whatever prayers may come to mind....(This applies only to crew members not actually flying the airplane. Pilots are restricted to tightening the anal sphincter muscle)
