Another one for your comment, Sir John
The 2d Engineer Brigade Soldiers, along with 36 other USARPAC Soldiers from Fort Richardson, Fort Wainwright, Hawaii, Korea, and Guam, participated in the 12-day Australian Army Junior Leader Jungle Training Course July 30 to Aug. 10 in the jungles of the Australian Combat Training Center in the country's northeastern state. The purpose of the course was to train on close combat jungle tactics and build relations between the U.S. and Australian armies. The Soldiers are also expected to take what they learned in Australia back to Alaska to train their units. The full article

I presume that this area is at Canungra, inland from the Gold Coast, where jungle training has been done since WW2. AFAIK, the area has not been hit by a cyclone for a few decades, and it is too far inland to have been effected much anyway. Too far south to be in the cyclone area. ALASKA? ? How much jungle does Alaska have? I presume this is a test of the waters to see how far they can go without our esteemed media letting it pass without a comment about "capitalist warmongers". Actually, with the increased profile of the USA in Darwin, and the regular bi-annual exercises at Shoalwater Bay, also in Queensland, it is a good sign of ever greater co-operation. SJ
