A NY judge has ruled that the police policy of randomly stopping individuals with little or no evidence of wrongdoing would violate the 4th amendment. That's correct.

Yes I agree with the Judges ruling , if you're stopped for a traffic violation why do you need to be frisked ? but there is one fact that is being overlooked , anyone stopped for breaking the law misdemeanor or not can be taken to jail and at jail can be subject to a frisk .

Yes I agree with the Judges ruling , if you're stopped for a traffic violation why do you need to be frisked ? It's worse than that - the police were doing it even when there was no suspicion of criminal activity.

It would have been okay if it was done in a normal manner, that would have been normal police work. But the NYPD has done about 684,000 of these checks in 2011 alone. Even for a big city, that is a bit much, especially if the non-white community is the main target of these checks.

Non-PC comment to follow: Who the hell do you think commits the majority of crimes in NYC, or any other big city for that matter?

Non-PC comment to follow: Who the hell do you think commits the majority of crimes in NYC, or any other big city for that matter? According to my friends in the banking sector "white men with too much hair oil and big cigars working in banks downtown". There is a balance between security and freedom and if you over-emphasis the security part, the freedom part is suffering. Some think that security is trumping all, but that is not the general view shared by 100% of the population. So it is natural that part of the population wants to push the rights of the police back to the normal level before again.

"that is not the general view shared by 100% of the population."
That NEVER happens.

A judge has ordered appointed a monitor to oversee the NYPD, which means a second bureaucracy will be doing that job. All the oversight in the world will not change things if the people do not change. That decision is being appealed.

In the neo-liberal world of NYC maybe NYC is not as liberal or politically correct as it is suppose to appear as the Police are appealing the so called Federal judges decision , it seems that the stop and frisk is the first line of defense in protecting the officers life .
