I would like to see all these issues put to rest and get on with it . Yep, me too. But we all know that can only happen one way. That is to have same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states. I think more and more people are starting to realize that. I think those who fought the hardest against same sex marriage helped the most to make it legal in the 13 states that now have such. -Don- Reno, NV

Society is becoming ever more accepting of different lifestyles. Being in a same sex marriage is no more of a different "lifestyle" than is being in a mixed race marriage. And I am in both. The term "The gay lifestyle" was a term coined by Christians, because it implies choice, as well as claims all gays have the same "lifestyle". Back in those days, they liked to claim how promiscuous all gays were. But of course, when they discovered many, if not most gays wanted committed relationships, they were very against same-sex marriage. BTW, I wonder if Catholics, when they forced all students to write with the right hand, called it the "left handed lifestyle" when people would write with the left hand. -Don- Reno, NV

I am puzzled by the same sex marriage quest by same sex partners because clearly the basis of a legal marriage was based on procreation and the resulting family unit of wife, husband and child. I have and do/did know many so called gay males and females many of whom lived together and I have no problem with that.
In my opinion there is a need for same sex partnerships to be recognised in law to provide for estate planning and other matters arising from long term relationships. But not marriage in the traditional way. Same sex couples might argue that they are capable of adopting and becoming good foster parents and again I am not opposed to adoption of a child by same sex couples. But adoption does not in my considered opinion open the way to marriage.
Maybe there should be a civil ceremony that legalises a same sex partnership.

So you're saying those heterosexual couples who are too old to have kids of their own, should not be allowed to marry? And would that include my own uncle who could not have kids of his own because of a WW2 combat injury? Would it include those heterosexual couples who have been "fixed" so they cannot have kids? If you agree that the ability to reproduce is a requirement for a marriage certificate, I would have no problem with it. My only concern here is equality and there is more than one way to make things equal.' Or is it like I expect, that you just don't want same-sex marriage, which has nothing to do with any of the reasons you just gave? BTW, Tom and my marriage was a "civil ceremony". But if you're saying that they should never be religious ceremonies, is that because you disagree with the first amendment of the US Constitution? -Don- Reno, NV
