Or as less as, as in the case of Tom & me, because of our large difference in incomes. Seems we don't have to far to go here in the USA to make it as equal as Canada. Just a bunch of state issues to deal with now, which I think will be soon changing. I expect to see same sex marriage legal in every state within a few years or so. But it's kinda ironic for some. Last year, Tom & I had to do separate federal returns as single and a joint CA state tax return as married. Now, in some states, they will have to do the EXACT OPPOSITE. Two state taxes as single and one federal as married. But for Tom & me, we're simply married and do joint return on both, and pay a couple of thousand less to the feds each year. For us to get legally married was a good business decision. Especially for this year as I have worked a lot of overtime. I've decided to retire in two years, but I am set to go now, if necessary, as I now already get the maximum retirement benefit of 75 percent, with a lot less taken out. I've worked for the City of SF since 1979 and I am 64. In two years, I will also get the maximum social security and I will receive more money when retired than when working, not counting all this overtime. With more free time, more money to do tings will be nice. -Don- SF, CA
