In my province, the socialists were expected to win, right until the day of the election, when the right-wing "Liberals", who had been the government, pulled off an upset.
So wait till the election is over, my Austrian Australian.

VOTED! I feel better already.
Into the dustbin of history for the socialists.

3000 ounces!
Sounds good, just saying it over and over.
...and if you want an invite to the "barbie" you had best bring a slab of VB, some snags, some chops, some steak, and a cask of rough red.
A couple of bottles of Penfolds 'Grange' will go down nicely, only $800 a bottle.

Swampy,
Polls close at 6PM and counting starts then. If the result is as expected we should know by about 8.30 or 9PM. The socialists should be firmly in the dustbin of history by 9.05PM.
We have a 'Preferential Voting' system where we vote for candidates in order of preference from 1 to 5 or whatever. If no candidate has 50% plus one vote, the last on the results list has his second preferences distributed and that continues until we have a winner.
I am counting the hours!

So the socialists have lost, and a new day has dawned. This is a trend that's been seen not just in Australia but also in Canada. I understand you guys came from a leftist Aussie forum that was intolerant of dissenters - perhaps you should go back and gloat.

A good result it seems. No counting on Sunday so we will have a clearer picture next week. It looks like a margin of 90 seats to about 55 in the Reps and a very close result in the Senate.
The Dark Age has passed.

As I've said before OZ would be a great place to start a Republic .

The socialists wanted a Republic called the 'Peoples Democratik Republik of Gillardia'. And before that they wanted one called 'Peoples Democratik Republic of Whitlamia'.
Neither got up!
I am near to certain another Referendum would get tossed out on its bum just like the other one. RAH RAH RAH!
Rule Britannia!

A Noble OZ who will never see their potential because of prior commitments to a Britannia that no longer rules .
