The AFL-CIO is having a convention in LA, and its leader is blaming companies and the US Supreme Court for hurting workers. Oh yeah, is that why labor membership has gone down from 35% to 11%? And is that also why labor wants to force workers to pay union dues even if they're not members? Is that why unions want to prevent non-union workers from taking jobs from union workers? Or non-union workers from undercutting union workers? So long as they don't learn, they'll keep shrinking. I hope they never learn.

Having belonged to a Union for 31 years I can see both sides , the biggest problem I had was the union would protect the dead wood , people that couldn't hack it , but for the most part the union did a good job in seeing the workers got a fair share , good income , good health care , good pension . By he way the AMA is considered the most powerful union in the Country .

I have no problems with collective bargaining per se - of course workers should have the right to gang up and squeeze companies. What I don't accept are unions forcing non-union workers to subsidize them and preventing non-union workers from crossing picket lines, because that violates the principle of free market, which is to encourage competition.

I've been on a couple picket lines an never tried to stop a non union from crossing , his problem was getting back out again the company would keep the non union on the property to keeps things running , some times for a week or more if the non union complained he was fired .
