Three Roman Legions were lost in a German Forrest a Legion = 3000 men x 3 = 9000 , Romans had a long memory and went back to Germany not once but three time and inflected severe pain on the culprits and anyone else who looked like they needed a little Roman justice , what does this have to with Vietnam ? , nothing or something , The U.S. lost 58,000 in Vietnam that's equivalent to 6 1/2 Infantry Divisions the average ID = 9000 men , what is the moral of this story ? , If the U.S. had the big and bad military WTF happen .

I suppose I was trying to make a comparison on how one Country Rome handled their loss in Germany as opposed to another Country and how they handled their loss in VIETNAM . It doesn't matter if one action was 2000 years ago the other in the 20th Century if the U.S. has the best military in the world WHY don't they use it .

What happened? The US didn't fight to win, that's what happened. While I would support going back to show the world NO ONE can get the better of the US, that war was 30 years ago, and Vietnam is a potential ally now.

Vietnam will never be an ally as long as there is one Vet living , 30 years 300 years , time doesn't matter as long honor is at stake .

Teutoberg Forest!
It was 3x full Legions, and I think the total was near 6000 each, 17th 18tn and 19th Legions, none of which were ever formed again.

As I'm never wrong , you might be counting twice , a cohort =500 x 6 =3000 these were Auxiliaries non Roman , but what the hell mate what difference does it make says Hillary .

I went to the source , even Augustus didn't know how many men he had , but all in all it was a bad day for Rome , the Germans pulled off a very good ambush , but in the end the usual happen and the Germans got their ass kicked
