I may not get any money, but I'll get revenge ...
I have several teenage women who will claim you are the father of their illegitimate children, and they'll be demanding child support ...

All transfers were made at least five or more years ago. Go get your judge and I'll see you in court. So you knew this forum would exist five years ago? Swampy, perhaps now you can add fraud to the charges. -Don- Reno, NV

To protect my assets, I deeded my houses to my kids and my savings to Judy. This makes my assets untouchable for payment of nursing home care and for inheritance taxes. Had nothing to do with this forum until Swampy started asking for a raise and you suggested he sue for wages....

Now you might have a bunch of lawyers to fight off from the nursing home. Let's just hope when that time comes, they don't read your message here. -Don- Reno, NV

The law defines a five year "look back". Anything past that is off limits....

Yes. It depends on the particular state or province. New York has no time limit, but, on a brief search of the internet, the look back period is 6 years - I don't know that, because I'm obviously more familiar with Canadian law, but that may be true.

I wish this discussion had come up five years ago. That bit of knowledge cost me $1200.00 for a consult with an "Elder Law" attorney, who even charged me for the stamp required to mail the info to me...

Well, the time period per se doesn't matter. If you transferred the property BEFORE any problems came up, then you're fine. IOW, if you transferred the property yesterday, and, a year later, you ran up debts by playing the stock market and losing, then your relatives are still safe, because you did it before the event. Jerry, you actually PAY people??? That's amazing.
