I'm sure their hourly rates must be far higher than mine - and the work is more fun.

Cutters of the Japanese Coast Guard and some small fishery and coast-guard ships from Taiwan clashed yesterday in the disputed waters and fought with water-canons. The Japanese ships managed to push those ships from Taiwan out of the waters claimed by Japan. And no, Swamps, this was no Miss Wet-T-Shirt contest.

Helen of Troy was the face that launched a thousand ships; is Sora Aoi the face that stopped them?

A professor at Australia's National University thinks China and Japan could go to war next year. I doubt it - Japan doesn't even begin to have the capability to fight, and it knows the US will not engage China in a great-power conflict over the islands. Of course, China isn't going to take on the US anytime soon either, which is another reason why I don't think there will be a war.

As with Taiwan, China cannot hope to prevail in a CONVENTIONAL war with Japan. She cannot project naval power that far.
Yes, she can zap Japan with nukes, but she will only generate a full on arms race with all her neighbours, and also destroy her reputation in world society forever.
China is being stupid, and is risking an awful lot in these islands, many of which are very clearly NOT hers!

Swampy,
"If she nukes Japan, the US will nuke her."
Do not bet on it. I know the US and Japan have treaties, but I cannot be certain that the USA will take a nuke on LA, NYC and DC to save Tokyo. And remember all that PRC fall-out will get to the 48 in short order.
Maybe yes, maybe no.
