24 years ago today, the US launched "Operation Acid Gambit" to rescue an operative captured in Panama. Noriega's thugs had put a guard, ready to kill the operative if a rescue was attempted, but the guard got eliminated instead. And the rescue was successful.

But, if the definition of win was to remove Saddam Hussein, then they won. In a similar vein, we "won" the Korean War because our goal was containment, NOT to walk down the streets of Beijing unarmed.
