The father of modern computing, who helped break the Nazi codes during wartime, was convicted of homosexuality in 1952 and chemically castrated. He committed suicide two years later. He has just received a Royal pardon, but that's not enough - a pardon means he is forgiven for his wrongdoing, but he never did anything wrong, so the conviction should have been annulled, assuming such a thing is possible in criminal law.
