The first machine gun invented by Dr.Gatling in 1864 capable of putting out 700 hundred rounds a minute good for defense but cumbersome on the road , three of these guns were available for use by George Custer but he rejected the idea because they would slow him down and George was a man with a mission , would they have made the difference at little Big Horn , doubtful the fight at little big horn was very fluid and Gatling guns were anything but fluid and the Indians were anything but stupid they had the soldiers surrounded and could easily pick off the gunners , now if an M-60 was available with a very good Gunner no doubt the outcome would have been much different .

"now if an M-60 was available with a very good Gunner no doubt the outcome would have been much different ."
A common refrain from the US Army, even today. Side of a barn, and all that old boy! all 700 rounds would be needed to hit the target.

probably the first target for the gunner would be the idiot that put them in the situation they were in .
