A bit windy ( long story ) old boy , however the empire did make up for some of that dog and pony show at Gallipoli .

Probably something to do with the renowned American attention span! The author of the piece should have put the letters USMC at the start, and Americans would have stayed awake long enough to find that was all there was to it.
I shall advise Wikipedia to reduce the entry to 5 lines.

For those that have gone to sleep on this, the "Light Horse" are NOT traditional cavalry, they are Mounted Infantry.
They carried rifles, and wielded the long bayonet of the .303 Lee Enfield. When dismounted, after reaching the objective, they fought hand to hand with the (terrified) enemy.
All good fun!
