Knew the basic story, but not the details. There was even a plan to evacuate the Royal Family to Canada, where they could keep an eye on the Western colonies.

When they ran that idea past the Queen she replied, "the children will not leave without me, I will not leave without the King, and the King will NEVER leave!"

I knew the British moved their gold to Canada, but I never knew they confiscated the securities of their people.

I am not sure that the securities (share certificates) were in fact "confiscated". The owners had to 'register' and I think they all (+ the company share registers) went with the gold to Canada, but only those held by the UK Government were sold to pay for munitions.
