THE tumbleweed New Mexico town of Vaughn has only one qualified police officer after its sheriff was forced to resign: the police dog Nikka.

The police chief of the small eastern New Mexico town resigned yesterday, leaving the town with just one certified member on its police force - a drug-sniffing dog named Nikka.
