I see we have a four star general under investigation for misspending government funds. Allegations are that he took his wife on a number of trips on military air, some of which were allegedly not business. He allegedly stopped off in Bermudia on one of these trips and stayed in a $700 + hotel suite. Also she supposedly used his aide as a personal 'gofer'. Any comments from the enlisted side of the house? Officers will probably say, "Nothing wrong with that, when's my turn?"

If a general wants extra money, can he moonlight? Say a JAG general works part-time as a divorce lawyer, or an army surgeon does what he does at the local hospital.

It would be tough since you are on duty 24/7. I kinda did it, though, as and LTC. But that was at the War College assignment - not a high intensity assignment - volunteered part time at the local Crisis Intervention center and could take calls at the crisis office or in my office. Had to be available for Army stuff 24/7 but it was possible - could return to post on a moment's notice if required - never was. Wasn't paid so it could have been considereed "community service" if any questions came up. As a General, however, I think many, many eyebrows would be raised.

The offence seems to be nothing worse than what Nancy Pelosi or our current First “Lady” has done..

That's a no-no in my book.

A similar situation happened to me. Jerry, give me your guidance. We were in Thailand doing a job for the general of the Sig battalion. When we finished our job, it was on a Friday, I was asked if we could use the plane for a weekend trip to Bangkok. I said no.
Question: What would you have done?

When we finished our job, it was on a Friday, I was asked if we could use the plane for a weekend trip to Bangkok. I said no. Question: What would you have done? I'd have said no for a couple of reasons: 1. It is not job related, and, even if a private company, since it was under govt contract, the trip would have cost taxpayer money 2. Airplanes are not, unlike most young folks, immortal. An accident at or over the Bangkok airport or anywhere enroute, would be very difficult to explain. 3. If an accident did occur and there was injury, or loss of life (most likely) there are large liability questions to be answered and expenditure of additional taxpayer funds 4. I probably wouldn't have been able to go along....(love Bangkok)
