I have several times requested Hornet to explain why he repeatedly says "Goodbye dr. Y" to me.
No luck. Hornet keeps saying "Goodbye" to me, but refuses to tell the board why.
The only explanation that he gave was that "it is no use repeating babble if babble is not understood."
Even that was wrong. The "babble" indeed was understood, but the contents of that "babble" are 100% crap, 100% rubbish. The problem is not that I would or could not understand babble.
I cannot move into the same apartment with Hornet unless we can make some sense into this "Goodbye Dr Y" business; but Hornet refuses to do so.
The ball is in his half of the court.
AJY alias Dr Y
PS. The business is even worse if he's from New England.

AJY,
I am afraid your command of English does not extend to understanding the American/English vernacular.
Americans do not speak English, they speak 'American'!

I decided to show some credentials who is who in this bulletin board. One could launch the linkedin.com and send some e-mail to: JOHN MILAN SEBIK- NSA/CNSS INFOSEC 4014E He, to the best of my knowledge, can answer some questions concerning me. (Yes, the NSA are the National Security Agency -- http://www.nsa.gov.) There still may be there some counterfeits concerning my identity data, but if there are there some ones, then they very simply need to be investigated. Everything obscure or unclear must be investigated, very simply.) AJY alias Dr Y

Dr Y, To try to explain - Hornet is, as we say, "Pulling your leg". In other words - he is teasing you just to see how you respond. You are responding in a fashion which prompts him to continue his teasing. Your choice, at this point, is to accept the teasing and tease him back in a contest to see who can tease the best and the most, or, you can ignore him and the teasing will stop. We have all been through it - it is kinda like an initiation rite

Why would anybody take Hornet (AKA Tet) serious?
IMO, this forum would be a lot more dead than it is now if it wasn't for him.

However, I have no idea if it is really true, but I have no reason to doubt it either. -Don- Auburn, CA

In my experience the 'American-English' is far more 'phonetic' in spelling and pronunciation, which of itself is probably a good thing. Much current English goes back over 400 years. Silent letters must be very confusing to a beginner.
In both England and the US there are quiet pronounced regional dialects that can be VERY confusing. I have never had a conversation with 2 others, perhaps one from Chicago and one from New Orleans, but I can imagine how I would go, hopeless. My one conversation with a man from Chicago was near unintelligible.
Here in Utopia we do not have regional accents, with a few exceptions you cannot tell which state an Australian comes from.
