Stratfor reported on Monday that in the past weeks spotters and aircraft trackers have observed a number of unusual movements.
About 12 MC-130H, HC-130N, HC-130P and AC-130U moved from the USA toward Souda Bay. Some days later a squadron of 12 F/A-18 Hornets were flown to Moron Airbase, Spain.
It might be just a coincident, but together with reports that France is deploying about 100 SF soldiers to the sub-Saharan region and the info that a number of US drones are operated from Italy over Libya, it might be that there is an operation against the Islamistic militias in the area of Libya and Mali pending.

I've been wondering if this kind of consultancy business is lucrative.

I've been wondering if this kind of consultancy business is lucrative. You need two client groups to survive; 1.) Media to keep your name in the press (in exchange for free accounts) 2.) Always worried companies and private persons who are willing to pay the monthly subscriptions fees and order consulting services against what ever currently is top of the list. The 1.) is easy to find, the 2.) is also available in abundance in the USA (much harder to find outside USA). The real money is earned with speeches and books.

I think companies also want analysis of places where they want to invest, as in a company that wants to invest in Africa will need to know if the designated country is sufficiently stable.

Swampy,
"a company that wants to invest in Africa will need to know if the designated country is sufficiently stable."
Could you provide a list of those in the 50+ African countries that fit this criteria?

IMHO the only one that would come close is Morocco.

When I was an undergrad, I had classmates who were from Africa. I was hoping they'd go back and stage a coup, and then maybe I'd get a nice, cushy job.
