I don't know how many have noticed but, I've been absent for a couple of days here. The story is, that a couple of years ago, I was diagnosed with an Abdominal Aeoritic Aneurysm. The doc said, "If you ever get a bad pain in the stomach or the back, get to the Emergency Room and have it checked out - like NOW! If that thing bursts, all you will have time to do is say good bye to those around you".
Well, last Saturday, I was peacefully watching TV when it felt like someone hit me in the lower right of my back with a 10 pound sledge hammer. I tried sitting straighter - no help. I tried lying down - no help - just got worse. I finally gave in and told Judy we had better get to the ER.
On arrival, I was poked, prodded, scanned, tested and otherwise mauled to the result that they determined I had a Kidney Stone. A couple of shots of some marvelous pain juice and about half of the pain went away. When it started coming back about three hours later, being a real macho type guy, I asked for another shot. The nurse said, "Not for another three hours. We can only give this one every six hours."
Made it through until about noon on Sunday when the pain just disappeared!! The doc said that I have had that little sucker for years but it had just moved into a position where it would cause pain. It had, now, apparently moved to a position where it wouldn't cause pain and I am scheduled to have it removed, by LASAR, on Wednesday.
The worst part of all of this is, that while poking and prodding, they discovered that my blood-oxygen level was low enough that a mild panic ensued. Monitors and oxygen bottles appeared and I was checked every half hour.
End result of this, and three days of monitoring in the hospital, is that I am now hooked to a machine in my living room by a 50 foot length of tubing that is pumping oxygen into my nose. I have two bottles that I can use if I have to leave the 50 foot perimeter of my living room, but their life is only about 2 hours, so my mobility has become severely limited.
I'm supposed to be evaluated to see if I can use a 'demand type' of regulator, which will increase the bottle time by about double, but even that will limit my ability to do much outside the house.
Some say that I may be able to improve the situation, while others say I'll be in this shape for the rest of my life. I'll try to keep you all posted if interested.... If you don't care for organ recitals, just hit 'delete".
